Ons hart gaat uit naar de Oekraïense bevolking en onze vele collega’s van de Oekraïense Psychologen Vereniging die haar al jarenlang ondersteunt in dit aanslepende conflict. Het is compleet onaanvaardbaar dat op zo’n grote schaal menselijk leed wordt aangedaan en het is ontstellend dat kennis uit onze wetenschap op zo’n grote schaal misbruikt wordt om de Russische bevolking te misleiden.
Wij zijn getroffen door de dapperheid van het Oekraïense volk en onze collega’s die zelfs in dit uur van nood alles blijven doen om de bevolking te ondersteunen. Vrienden waarmee we al jarenlang nauw samenwerken worden nu onder de wapens geroepen. Vrijheid en het zelfbeschikkingsrecht zijn één van de grootste waarden die we met zijn allen als psycholoog delen.
Wij blijven echter ook onze Russische collega’s ondersteunen met wie wij eveneens nauw contact hebben en waar het eens te meer duidelijk is geworden dat deze oorlog niet de wens is van het Russische volk.
Zij aan zij staan wij verenigd als Europese collega’s om elkaar te ondersteunen in wat één van de donkerste periodes is voor Europa sinds de tweede wereldoorlog.

Following the Global Psychological Alliance and the European Federation of Psychologist' Associations (EFPA), the VVKP joins the international psychology community to express its deepest indignation about the war in the Ukrain started by Russia's president Poetin.
Our heart goes out towards the Ukrainian people and our colleagues from the Ukrainian Psychological Association who is supporting the population for years in this ongoing conflict. It is completely unacceptable that human suffering is caused on such a wide scale and it is appalling that knowledge from our science is mistreated to mislead the Russian population.
We are struck by the courage of the Ukrainian people and our colleagues who, even in this hour of need are doing everything they can to continue to support the population. Friends who we have worked with for years are now being called to arms. Freedom and the right of self determination are one of the greatest values we all share as psychologists.
However, we also continue to support our Russian colleagues with whom we are also in close contact and where we learn clearly that this war is not the wish of the Russian people.
As European colleagues we stand side by side to support each other in what is one of the darkest periodes for Europe since World War 2.
